Loaves & Fishes of the Fox Valley, Inc., is committed to providing a nutritious evening meal to anyone, in a safe and welcoming environment.
Loaves & Fishes of the Fox Valley, Inc. (L&F) had its origin at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Appleton, WI. Our first outreach provided an evening meal to all the guests staying at the Emergency Shelter of the Fox Valley, Inc., beginning in January of 1995. Volunteers at St. Pius X committed to providing a meal on the first Sunday of each month. Within one year's time, nineteen churches of various denominations joined the outreach then known as the Emergency Shelter Food Program (ESFP). By November of 1998, Loaves & Fishes was providing volunteers at the shelter every day of the year to cook and serve the meal.
Carol Burns, founder of L&F, had always dreamed of expanding the ESFP by offering the meal to all in the Fox Valley who were hungry or alone. To that end, in June of 1999, volunteers of L&F piloted a program at St. Joseph's Church in downtown Appleton to determine its feasibility. Because the pilot program proved a success, The Community Meal was launched in November, 1999-first at St. Joseph Middle School, then later in its present location at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton.
